Indecision Pt 468.

Right,  its happened again.  I still would like a 1D!  Might scrub the flash (as i’ve already got the 380EX) and the fisheye (great lens but would it get used?).

No doubt I’ll change my mind again.

So indecision pt.II

Maybe not indecision this time, more of a refinement of my previous wants.

Equipment wanted:

EF300mm f/4 – Currently £868.00

EF15mm f/2.8 Fisheye – £441.96

EX580 Flash unit – £247.49

Total £1557.45

Also need a monopod for the 300mm lens. Though might wait and see what people are flogging off at Focus. Not committing myself to a purchase until Focus 2007. If the prices are like the last year then maybe i can expect 5-10% off these. Saving £150 would be nice. Camerapricebuster.co.uk is my current secret weapon!

Still would like a 1D Mark IIn, but i’m waiting for the PMA show for that one. Too many rumours abound, so as its not needed it can wait.

I fully expect this list to change. Though i’m very happy with the performance of my EF70-200 f/4 with the 1.4 converter. I think the 300mm will behave in exactly the same way. Although IS will help it. And maybe improve on the 200.

Windows Vista

Right, just got my copy from the Microsoft Action Pack (typical shitty upgrade version though). Here goes. I’m keeping one of my PC’s probably as a multiboot box with XP/Vista and 2003 server.

Installation starts off crap, needs to be run from within XP. Ho hum, pain in the arse. Expect a fuller update soon.

/edit

Brief synopsis of my hour with Vista

Installation. Still takes a while, kinda annoying that it asks for network settings twice. Anyway language bar appears to still want to be American. Seems as slow to install as XP. Though no ‘Microsoft Timer’ for accurate install time.

Rebooting seems to take a while, explorer layout is broken. Who designed it? Stevie Wonder?

Widget bar, mmm wonder where that came from. One feature that looks good is the automated file recovery (from 2003 Intellimirror). Though didn’t test it.

Turned off themes service to run in ‘work’ mode. This seems to break the toolbar. The constant asking to run applications is quite annoying as well. I’m used to the Mac saying ‘OK to run this’ but Vista does it on installed system apps.
Anyway verdict of brief synopsis: Vista is shite, keep XP. There you go. Sure it’ll upset the PC fanboys, but who cares.

Fire!

Saw an incident today(10-01-2007). Ran (well slight jog) to what I had seen. It was an old building near Aston Science Park (Birmingham – for all my none brummie readers). Local press tog was there already. Fired off a few shots (as well all the other camera phones and digital compacts). Had a brief chat to the tog, seems that the Evening mail rarely pay for any images from freelancers. Still sent it anyway!
