Difficult to review the show as I didn’t spend a great deal of time there. You see, the other day my mate Chris emailed me saying ‘Nice deals on the 1D going’ well you already know what happened…….
So, I got one.
To explain, on the Canon stand was Dave Newton from Eos Magazine forums (and technical bloke from CPS). So a brief chat about the fix for the dodgy autofocus (which to be fair isn’t an issue for the majority of people, but would like to know it’s fixed). As we spoke Jacobs scrubbed the sign for the 1D mkIII body, it was £2299, then it became £2150 for the last 5 bodies. One other bloke speaking to Dave got one, I followed behind.
So to help soften the blow, I’m having a clear out of stuff. One of the 5D’s is going (newer one) plus I’ve decided to shift a fair amount of my gaming stuff.
No review just yet, I need a few weeks to figure out all the new menus and custom settings. Currently the 1D is partnered with the EF17-40mm f/4 L. The converts to 22.1-52mm because of the 1.3 crop sensor (APS-H) that the camera uses. So it’s a little wider than the 24-105 but 50mm shorter. The camera bag has been adjusted to fit the bulk of the new body in. We’ll see how things work out with it.

The 1D MkIII is the 10mp 10fps version. I’d have to remortgage for the 1DS MkIII

Anyway, I’m having a clearance sale at the moment. One of my 5Ds is going (don’t need 2) plus I’m probably going to flog some of my old gaming stuff.

mmm..10mp 1D is still a sight to behold. They have a sexy build on them, those 1D!
Sale might not be happening now, the 1D is going back. I’ve had a number of Err 01 messages which relates to the connection between the lens and body. The contacts have been cleaned, but it still comes up. But then it’ll just work normally.
Also the grip material on the memory card cover is coming loose. To be honest it’s not the build quality I’d expect from a 1 series. So later I’ll be battling with Jacobs for a refund.
So I’ll be stuck with 2 5Ds, which isn’t a bad thing really.
(I try to sort out the messaging, it still requires me to approve each one!)
