AG SMS 04/11/09

That time again, and for some reason I’ve totally forgotten about it. Though I’ve not been that attentive to twitter lately.

Still will try to get to the Inn on the Green for tomorrows social media surgery. Work permitting of course. Though the plan is to got in early(ish)

/edit – got stuck in work, then stuck on the bus. Oh well, seems 4 of us dropped out.

Freeview HD

Well I’m ready, I have 2, yes 2 HD ready TVs. Both Freeview, but it seems if I want Freeview-HD then I need a Freeview HD box.

So my HDTV’s are actually as HD ready as some might think. To be honest it doesn’t surprise me, my TVs are HD compliant for the current crop of HD (Sky, V*rg*n and some games consoles). Apparently we’ll have it in Brum this time next year!

Manc’s and Cockneys are getting it first. So expect a series of Da*ly M*il articles on freeview disasters.

I only found out by accident, whilst looking for F1 highlights on channel 302 I found a message. What has happened is the BBC have lost 2 interactive pages 302 and the news multiscreen. Not a big loss I guess and I suppose it had to be the BBC that lost rather than one of the many unwatched drivel stations. Personally If they culled all stations after Dave and before Cbeebies I wouldn’t mind.

Loft – The Final (almost)

And when I say The Final I mean at an end, not reliving the delights of the last Wham album.

For some reason after I painted the walls I didn’t get a picture, I do not know why.  But, you can be assured it looks like the pictures below without any furniture.  So Chalky Blue it is then, apart from the white bits.   It’s not the largest of spaces and I’ve downsized on the desk.  Though to be honest the old desk was mainly crap and paperwork on one side.

Is it finished?, still no.  But at least it’s usable now.  And since I secured the insulation it’s not actually to bad temperature wise.

Desk was changed as I was initially looking at a corner desk, but it was too big. Ikea saved the day with the slim Vika desk.  2nd monitor on the desk is actually a TV, so this will be stuck on the wall (just to the right and above the higher plug sockets).
Getting Close

I should have planned it better to match this storage area to the height of the desk, but I didn’t. Oh well. Not too sure if the Mac Mini (server – where you currently viewing this page from) is staying in this unit. But for the moment it is.
Getting Close

This Underdesk storage will be used for my external HDDs, eventually I’ll stick a shelf in for them. Hiding the mains cables underneath. The dangling other cables will eventually be tidied up. Oh the red table legs, not my first choice but the grey ones were out of stock (and at £2 each it not a big waste of cash).

Slightly wider shot of the desk

The undecided Mac Mini/other bits storage area.

Unfinished shelves, odd shape I know but the roof is to blame.

Digital Piano with temporary Piano stool (not a dining room chair honest). Banister also has my router and cabling areas hidden behind the chair. Temporary little table will be replaced by a small printer table. Freeing the space above my Mac storage area.
Getting Close

So bits to finish, Mount the TV on it’s bracket, Buy and Fit the Velux blinds, make the loft access hatch, light and shelving. But it’s a working solution now, so can get on with decorating Callum’s room (then the kitchen).

Loft – an update from the past

Mainly cos I didn’t get round to doing it. So continuing on from the last exciting post, Loz the plasterer (not Loz who works at reception in BCC) had finished and so the painting began.

Smooth Walls and Big camera bag storage.

The OSB painted over quite well

LightRoom 3 Public Beta

Despite my moaning about Adobe in the past (and future) they still produce my main workflow tool: LightRoom

Now after a year and a bit they’ve released the beta version of LR3. As usual with the beta versions you cannot use an existing library. Which is a little frustrating as it means to test I have to duplicate work. Though I guess as the Beta is slated to be a little buggy then I suppose they don’t want togs to destroy their work.

So differences:

Initially the Interface looks the same, not a great deal of difference here then.

Normal navigation screen

A few differences on the left hand side as it now shows a Publish Services option. Handy for a quick upload to Flickr or in my case hopefully my webserver. Though only tested Flickr at the moment. Will save me using iPhoto! Also it seems many API have been written for the LR2, so no doubt these will be converted for LR3. Would be nice to see an Alamy one!
