Canon Eos 5D firmware update 1.1.1

This firmware update (Version 1.1.1) incorporates the following fixes and improvements:

  1. It now supports high-capacity CF cards.
  2. It allows the latest lens names to be recorded in the Exif information of images taken.
  3. It adds lenses that are compatible with the Digital Photo Professional 3.2 lens aberration correction function.

Version 1.1.1 firmware update is for use with cameras with firmware up to Version 1.1.0. If you already have Version 1.1.1, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

Handy update if you must have 8gb+ cards. The lens data is a nice addition, but as I’ve not got any of the new lenses it’s fairly irrelevant. Lens aberration correction looks to be a useful addition. Though I don’t tend to use DPP at all, that said worth a try to correct something shite.

  1. Dude, when you have a spare 5 mins I’d like to pick your brains re: firmware updates and the like as I have the fear on this subject!!

  2. Have no fear!

So long as you have decent battery life things should be fine. I’ve only done one of my 5Ds so far though, mainly cos I can’t be bothered getting the other one out of the depths of the kit bag!

Anyway, If you want to call please do (unless you’ve not got my mobile number).

  3. I shall indeed, also need to pick brains re: sensor cleaning. I too use the rocket blower but is there some kind of mini hoover thing around to suck dust out of the body?

If so, is it worth a punt?

  4. I’ve seen a number of things for sensor cleaning. Two that get recommended are the wet clean Pec-Pads (http://www.cameraclean.co.uk/index.php) or the Artic Butterfly (quite expensive). For a while I’ve been happy with the rocketblower. However I think I might invest in a wet clean kit (it’s around £25).

As for the hoover/vacuum I’m not too sure how effective it would be shifting sticky dust that sometimes gets spot welded to the sensor.
