New body test

Finished a little earlier today (as I started earlier) so I had the opportunity to test the new body.  The usual testing ground, Birmingham Airport was the venue.

Lufthansa Jet

Overall, happy. It does what my other 5D does only the dials and buttons are not as worn (not that the older 5d is knackered, just the new one has a stiffness to the buttons).

2nd Body II

Went and got the Eos 5D. No learning a new bit of kit for me. I might get replaced in September, but I don’t care. Went into Brum and tried Jessops, not much use tbh. The only had the kit, which was £80 more than Jacobs anyway. Went to Jacobs, asked if they’d price match T4 Cameras in Swindon. Instead of the £1519 price match, they offer £1550. Done deal as I really didn’t want to drive anywhere.

Also just in time for the £100 cashback, which expires 30th June. Only disappointment was the lack of the battery grip. Amazon had sold the last one, so ordered it from Cameras2u (ie Jessops). Currently it’s on hold awaiting address verification as I asked for it to be sent to my Mom and Dad.

Canon EF300mm f/4 L IS USM

Told you I’ve got a thing about primes, 3rd one of the year. Anyway, after a long wait I finally plunged the bank account and bought it. Again the source was the ever reliable Kerso. A veritable bargain at £700 delivered.Canon EF300 f/4 IS USM

The lens comes in the usual Red, White and Black box. As it’s an ‘L’ Lens of course it comes with a case (though a canvas zip up case) and a hood. The hood on this lens is built into the body and can be used with screw in filters (77mm).

The lens is pictured in front of the EF70-200 f/4 L as a reference to the size difference (Hood down). It’s quite a weighty lens, though Canon have recognised this with the inclusion of the tripod mount (an optional extra with the EF70-200 series, though in fairness to Canon not really needed).

Stick in the mud (Photography Day Pt II)

So, as I was in-between jobs thought I’d go for Photography day part II.

This days chosen location, Wast Water and the surrounding area (Lake District). Not the easiest lake to get to as it’s not near the touristy lakes. Didn’t really plan anything other than drive to the lake, get out the map tWast Waterhen decide where to go. Nice uneventful journey from Brum, about 4.5 Hours in total. Slight disappointment when I got to the car park at Wast Water to find a ticket machine, which wanted £3.70 of my finest pounds to park for about 3 hours. Luck was on my side however as the machine didn’t except any coins (Parking is free for National Trust members).
