Surgery 2

(actually is surgery 3, but I missed the first one).

After a mixup with the dates I actually attended the surgery this week, and it was nice to see Rebecca who I’d advised last time.  She came to ask advice about the blog for her local community (Francis Road, B27).   Nick Booth was on hand to offer advice about the configuration/look of the blog.  Anyway, first success of the social media surgery……..

As you can see it’s very early days, but the important thing is the blog is up and running.  So well done to Rebecca and Mandy.

Money for nothing?

…or so it seems.  Today I was looking at last months business account statement and noticed an old customer has paid me £114.99.  I last worked for them 3 years ago, so no idea what this is about.  Maybe the accounting system is just clearing off old payments.

Still can’t complain, afterall they didn’t pay me for the first 4 months of my business dealings with them.  Maybe it’s back dated interest.

Surgery anyone?

I’ve heard about Social Media Surgeries before, in fact anyone that visit’s Podnosh will have had some exposure to them.  For a while I thought, can I offer anything?  So tonight I went to the Acocks Green Surgery to see what it is all about, also went along to pass on the little knowledge of WordPress that I possess.

Seemed to start of quiet, a few people who podnosh and Trav28 had met before were present.  Then the 2 ladies (bec and mandy? – I may have asked the names, but in the excitement forgot!) came in and asked about setting up a blog, Nick pointed them in my direction and I was happy to help out.

Hopefully I didn’t go too technical.  My hope was to have a local installation of wordpress to demonstrate, which I had – but it didn’t seem to work in the pub.  Worked fine at home though.  Still managed to demonstrate how easy it was to setup and configure a blog using WordPress.com.

Time seemed to fly, and it was nice to get to speak to Nick a bit more than I have done in the past.  Will look forward to the next meet up around the end of July.  Hopefully it’ll be a little cooler then.

Birmingham Twestival aka @brumtwestival

So what’s it about then, well……

……..On 12th February 2009 Birmingham will be joining over 100 confirmed cities around the world in a night of fund raising, partying, competitions and all round fun.

There’s been a lot talk about Brumtwestival around the blogosphere, so rather than simply repeat what’s already been said in great detail we’ll start off with a summary of where we’re at.

The Twittersphere here in Birmingham is a very close-knit bunch so of course everyone is actively encouraged to @ their ideas and thoughts to us. To see what’s been going on there’s also an aggregator with all mentions of brumtwestival on Twitter. To get your message to appear simply include brumtwestival in one of your tweets and it’ll get picked up and added to the page.

Prizes and stuff available, but probably the best thing is meeting many Birmingham Twitterers.

So get a ticket (not checked if any are left, still you can do that – it’s late and I should be in bed), tis only 5 of your English pounds.   Oh it’s for charity as well (Charity:Water).
