Loft Update

The insulation has arrived!

Well I had to collect it as I missed the courier, still I’ve got it now. Installed new lights for loft access as once the insulation is up I won’t be able to see anything the other side of the wall.

Quite cheap as well, 4 foot florescent strip was £9.99 from Focus. These lights aren’t part of the main lighting in the house. They are fed from a 3 pin plug.

Twitter – I’ve started to use it a bit more.

Following on from the previous post (about being late and all that) I’ve decided to post on Twitter a bit more.

Also rearranged the sidebar to include my latest Tweets. Though the Twitter API only allows 100 connections per hour (I think) so it may not work late into the hour (as it currently isn’t). It’s still an experiment at present. However if you want to talk to me via Tweeter please do. The link to my Twitter account is Kebablog.

A couple of useful applications for tweeters:

Tweetdeck Desktop Tweeter client (Free – Donation requested – Requires Adobe Air platform)

Tweetie iPhone/iPod Touch client (costs about £1.79)

Enjoy.

Loft update

As regular readers are aware I’ve started a loft conversion, so thought i’d update the blog with its current progress.

Most of the frame work is now complete, just got to decide where the storage access hatch is going to be.  I did have one position in mind but I keep changing my mind over it.  Still everything is on hold until I get the insulation now…….

(Retro CRT TV setup and working!!!! – Was the one I used on my Spectrum back in 1985 – So not bad for a 24 year old TV – makes an odd popping noise though. I’ll take it apart and check for dry joints)

I was looking a polystyrene blocks for insulation but looking around I found a thermal bubble wrap like sheet that does the same job. It costs £109 for a 1.5m x25m roll, but it should be easier to work with. Especially in some of the cabinet and on the roof joists.

Loft space is around 1.4m x 3.7m, so it’s a little narrower, but a little longer than my current room. Though with the additional storage in the loft it might seem a little bigger. Still got plenty to do before it’s done.

B&Q – useless

As it’s freezing and our gas fire doesn’t work we thought we’d B&Q it to look at a new one (given up on non turning up plumbers to fix old one). They had a wide range to choose from, just no fitting costs.

You have to call B&Q Handyman services (or something like that) to arrange a £25 survey. They can’t give prices over the phone. Surely it’s not beyond them to be able to say ‘Oh, usually it is around £75, subject to a survey’. The Survey fee is returned if you go ahead with the installation, but what if they turn round and say £150 to install? Then I’ll go elsewhere and lose that £25.

So the gas fire search continues, B&Q – you’re fired

The Wireless Freedom

Tis great, wirelessly posting in Touchwood whilst the wife is in Hennes.
Popped into John Lewis to check out any bargains, it was crowded and nothing I’m really interested In.

Interesting as it looks as USC has just gone into administration.

Thanks to the Apple store for free wireless
