Missing the footie?

I though I would, but to be honest it’s nice to have a weekend where I’m not booked up.

Now I’ll still have an interest in the Blues, I always will. But for the time being it seems like a sensible decision.

It wasn’t about the money or the relegation. I just got tired of a number of things

  • Watching ‘Professionals’ who really didn’t want to play
  • Piss poor venue facilities
  • Increasing violence in and around the ground.

Shame really, but I’ve done my sentence but committed no crime.  Sadly we were never the champions either.

New TV

It turned up!

So new toy, new features (time slipping!) will update this once I’ve got used to it.

One problem now I have a nice shiny new LCD.

Big old CRT.  As it was tucked away in the corner of the room I really didn’t notice how huge it is.  Hopefully a friend will have it (gratis).  If not looks like I might have a problem.

New TV, almost……

…it’s on way from the John Lewis warehouse.

Went for a Series 4 32″ Samsung (LE32A457), looks fine and probably more than I need.

Should look something like this! Not 1080p, only 720. But as I have no interest in getting a Blu-Ray player then it should be fine. I may look at Freesat, but it’ll be fine for that.

Also on the bill is a HDD Recorder, after drooling over my Dads Panasonic EX-77 recorder if finally caved in and bought a EX-768, which is pretty much the same sans SD card slot. No real loss for me with only one SD camera in the house.

I did collect the HDD from John Lewis and it is currently recording Dr Alice as I type. Quality is good, though through scart on the old CRT it isn’t as good as I think the LCD will be.

Anyway, not a bad days spending. The TV was reduced to £399 and the recorder was £279, with 5 year and 2 year guarantees respectively. I could have got the HDD cheaper online, but it’s after my discount at JL it’s only about £50 more. Plus I get the extra years cover. So after discounts on both it came to £596.64

🙂

Just got to wait for the TV now, Saturday apparently!

Ears and the infections herein

I’ve only got myself to blame really. I know that I shouldn’t (and indeed Dr Alice pointed it out on the Telly last week), but when I get an itch in my ear I often poke around with a cotton bud.

Whilst the ear hasn’t exploded it hurts a fair bit. Now I could go and get anti-biotics but I wont. I feel I might need those later in life and I don’t want my body (not really a Temple, more of a community hall) to build up and immunity against such a vital drug.

I can carry on working without any issues, I just occasionally pull a funny ‘nutter on the bus’ face.

/edit forgot to mention that I cut my finger yesterday on a piece of glass. That bled quite a bit. Tis sore now, really shouldn’t be typing.

/edit 2 Just to illustrate the point

Gash

Apologies for the gash, but it still stings a bit. Gash – great word.

Indecision time again.

This time it’s about a TV (and a HDD recorder).

Really since I bought my old Sony 32″ CRT behemoth TV I’ve never really liked it. O.k. the freeview picture has always been great, but other stuff like Satellite and now my Wii look fairly shite (though some might argue as the Wii is only SD then it’ll always be shite – not me though).

To use the Wii I have to keep changing the settings on the TV, otherwise it’s too contrasty for me. Anyway enough of the bollocks TV.

A new LCD or Plasma, well that decision has been made. I don’t want anything bigger than 32″. The smallest Plasma screens are 37″. So LCD it is then.

But christ is it difficult to choose (especially as the selection at John Lewis is quite slim).

I did narrow it down to 2 Panasonic TX-32LZD85 & Samsung LE32A558

Both pretty evenly matched, though the Panny has 100mhz and the Sammy better contrast ratio.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH

The HDD recorder is simple though, either the Panasonic EX768 or the EX78 – seems to be a bit more for a larger HDD.

One thing that has come out of this is ‘How the fuck do you shift an monster TV? and to whom?’

It’s been turned down by one friend (though it would look ridiculously large in their house).  So hopefully I can shift it soon.
