Virgin, spend before you leave

Probably my fault. But when I left Virgin Mediocrity (mobile contract) I had built up around £50 in rewards. When I left they said this would be fine. However after a number of attempts to get in to the system I’ve called them.

Because I left everything is gone, so they’ve stolen my money. Still gives me a chance to post a picture from Burgy’s blog I nabbed a while back.

Thanks.

Balena Project_Birmingham. ’08 – Ikon Gallery

Just by accident found this art work. The subject is a little strange: Whales, small toy whales (or fish type things), a brain, a video animation and some blubber.

The work is from the Italian artist Claudia Losi, it features a life size whale, a dramatic shift in scale that relates not only to the physical onject, but also to the epic concept of time evoked by a species that has survived for some 50 millions years (according to the brochure – hence not my words!).

Anyway, my take is a bloody big whale with the sound of whale music in the background. I assume the brain is representative of the brain in the beast – hence it’s quite small considering the size of the whale. That said it’s not really going to work out Pi to 28 places, so for motor function I guess it’s fine.

As with the Rice Show the gallery are happy for photography to take place. So with that in mind I went a little arty with the animated video, well the light it produced anyway.

Not too sure about the artistic merits of the display, however it’s worth seeing just for the impressive size of the beast. Which maybe is the point (you’ll have to excuse my ignorance – I’ve only recently started to do art/installation stuff).

Overall a worthwhile visit if you’re in the area, if you’re not why not pop in a have a nose around.

On display until 26th October (12-7pm – Tues-Sun) at the Mailbox Level 5 (bottom of the escalators)
Admission is free, plus the Ladies on site were very pleasant.

A quick google shows that i’m probably the last blog to mention it, so remember you heard here last!

Be Booked….Be Insured……

…is the message displayed on all private hire cars these days (well in Brum anyway). So after a good night out I staggered to Digbeth (Institute) where the private hire cars normally pick people up. Not having any preferred taxi company to choose I decided to call the numbers on a car. 5 Star I believe they are called. 20 minutes they said, so after 30 minutes I called another company 20 minutes they said, so after 30 minutes I gave up. Normally when pissed off with private hire I’ll flag down a black cab. However with the memory of the £18 bumrape on my last black cab journey I decided that being a stubborn twat was in order and decided to continue to sit in the bus shelter.

After a while, and mainly because the Kerryman was at kicking out time (04:00) I decided that the private hire waiting seemingly for no-one might do the non booking dodgy deal. So I asked how much to Yardley, £10 was the reply, so I jumped in and went home.

He was breaking the law, however I was cold and wet and really needed to get home. It’s a bit shite that Travel West Midlands don’t appear to have a decent night bus service anymore (I’m sure they used to have one on the major routes until 2 or 3 in the morning).

So welcome to a night out in brum, don’t stay out too late as the buses don’t run and the taxis are fairly shite.

Moo Cards

After meeting with the blogger and media group last week I discovered (and collected a few) Moo Cards.

Now as explained in a previous post, they’re just mini business cards. Well, today they arrived……

Quality is great, though when I get the next batch I’ll try some higher resolution images as the images I’ve zoomed in on lost a little bit of quality.  Still overall impressed.  I might get another batch that are more blogging related.  That said my BCG Media page may have a link to the blog – mind you with some of the language, maybe not.

Now that I have these cards I can announce officially they are the first set of business cards I’ve ever had that are exclusive to me (none of that blank with company name on shite).  Obviously the first set will be given to everyone I know, Mom and Dad have had the first 2!

Anyway thanks to Jo Geary, Bobbie Gardener and Dave Evans for the pointers to Moo.
