Now the Apps store wasn’t a new thing for me as I could use it on my iPod Touch. However since getting the iPhone I’ve found some Apps more useful. So what I’ve decided to do is review new Apps as and when I purchase them. The intention is not to score them, just write a small review.

First on the list is Hill Lists:

Now, it’s nothing too complex just a list of Hills. Granted, not that interesting for some. But for me, with my interest in hill/fell walking it’s quite a decent little app. O.k. all the information is in the public domain, and easily searchable. But this little App keeps all the useful information in one place, plus the static info is offline. The only online part is the link to Google maps.

It lists hills by country, so you can select Scotland, Wales, England and even the Isle of Man. Also the hills are categorised by author (Wainwright, Munro, etc.) so if your someone who only wants to climb certain peaks then that’s something for you. Once you’ve selected your list, the hills can be listed in book, name, height or distance order. The individual hill info give you OS references, book refs and it’s height. One other nice feature is the tick, sadly only one of mine is checked. But hopefully that’ll increase in the future. Probably my favourite feature is the maps. Yes they are only available when you’ve got a network/wifi signal, but they are a handy quick reference of all the hills (or group) you select.

The blue pin indicates the currently selected hill/fell (Helvellyn).

For more info, just search for Hill Lists on the App Store. Graham, the author does have a support page here.

I can’t recall if I mentioned my transition to complete Apple whore, but I recently purchased an iPhone.
