{"id":3002,"date":"2018-12-08T16:06:03","date_gmt":"2018-12-08T16:06:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/?p=3002"},"modified":"2018-12-08T17:16:38","modified_gmt":"2018-12-08T17:16:38","slug":"new-glass-fujifilm-xf14mm-f-2-8-r","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/?p=3002","title":{"rendered":"Fujifilm XF14mm f\/2.8 R"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been looking for a while to pick up another lens, but was waiting for the right time etc. \u00a0 However the marketing people at Fujifilm know this so a well timed \u00a3100 voucher and the winter cash back tempted me.<\/p>\n<p>I was looking at picking up the XF18mm to accompany my X-E3 and 27mm. \u00a0 Unfortunately the 18mm (along with the 23, 35, and 50) was excluded in the \u00a3100 voucher offer so I had to look elsewhere (I could&#8217;ve simply just not bothered, but a \u00a3100+Cashback saving is hard to turn down).<\/p>\n<p>Why the 14mm? \u00a0I&#8217;ve toyed with a few different lenses such as the 56mm and 90mm. \u00a0The 56mm is a choice of many portrait photographers (matches roughly the 85mm on a Full Frame sensor) &#8211; but as I don&#8217;t really shoot portraits \u00a0it&#8217;s probably not a great choice at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>The 90mm is a bit of an odd size (similar to the 135mm on FF), but having previously owned the Canon EF135 f\/2 L it&#8217;s a type of lens I loved. \u00a0 Still at this moment I consider it to be a nice to have lens rather than something that would get a lot of use.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3004\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3004\" style=\"width: 525px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3004\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_2-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_2-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_2-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_2-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_2.jpg 1400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3004\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fujifilm X-E3, XF14mm f\/2.8 R<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Package wise, the XF14mm is a small compact unit &#8211; although not as small as the 18mm or the 27mm lenses. \u00a0 It&#8217;s compact enough to fit in my small bag which I take to work in my rucksack. \u00a0The hood adds a little to the bulk, \u00a0but it&#8217;s an item you&#8217;d need to carry around as being a wide lens you may get a bit of flare in the sun light.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3003\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3003\" style=\"width: 525px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3003\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_1-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_1-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_1-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_1.jpg 1400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3003\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fujifilm X-E3, XF14mm f\/2.8 R<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of the annoyances with the 27mm pancake lens is the lack of the aperture ring, its a welcome addition on the 14mm. \u00a0 Feature wise the 14mm is a little sparse, no IS and no obvious manual focus option. \u00a0The latter is available &#8211; the switch is actually the focus ring. \u00a0The ring can be pushed forward to enable auto focus and pulled back to switch to manual. \u00a0It&#8217;s a bit odd, \u00a0but you do get used to it.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3005\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3005\" style=\"width: 525px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3005\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_3-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_3-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_3-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_3-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/X-e3_14mm_3.jpg 1400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3005\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">14mm vs 18mm<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Unfortunatley I purchased the lens on one the most miserable days of the year so far &#8211;
