{"id":2860,"date":"2018-03-30T22:19:47","date_gmt":"2018-03-30T22:19:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/?p=2860"},"modified":"2018-03-30T22:42:22","modified_gmt":"2018-03-30T22:42:22","slug":"fishy-samyang-8mm-f2-8-umc-fish-eye-ii-fuji-x-mount","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/?p=2860","title":{"rendered":"Fishy &#8211; Samyang 8mm f2.8 UMC Fish-eye II (Fuji X Mount)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The fisheye lens is one of those marmite things &#8211; you know the analogy so I won&#8217;t bother. \u00a0 As I&#8217;m purely in the positive side of that analogy I&#8217;m back in the fisheye game &#8211; thanks to a 2nd hand purchase of a Samyang 8mm f2.8 UMC Fish-eye II.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s one of the gaps in the Fuji X system plugged by a few manufacturers so there&#8217;s no need for an OEM lens to be rushed out. \u00a0In the fully electronic world of modern cameras the Samyang is a totally manual lens &#8211; anyone that&#8217;s ever used a fisheye however will realise this is a non-issue as you often shoot at f\/8 and 1m to infinity so the world is pretty much in focus regardless. \u00a0 The only issue with a manual lens is the lack of Exif information being passed back to the body.<\/p>\n<p>Construction wise, it&#8217;s a solid lens &#8211; well built, controls move well and the aperture ring is nice and simple. \u00a0 The lens hood is superb with a locking mechanism which Canon could have done with the adding to the old EF 15mm (although that originally came out in the 1980&#8217;s &#8211; so maybe I&#8217;m been too critical of them!). \u00a0 The odd bit is a clear plastic\/metal underneath section at the base &#8211; looks a bit odd, but looks are unimportant as this is just a lens.<\/p>\n<p>Image wise, I&#8217;m impressed. \u00a0 I&#8217;ve not gone down the pixel peeping route as frankly I can&#8217;t be bothered. \u00a0 For me it&#8217;s a great replacement for the old Canon unit.<\/p>\n<p>Click on the images below for a larger view.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2862\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2862\" style=\"width: 525px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/39309642560_9ad9b1b8df_k.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2862\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/39309642560_9ad9b1b8df_k-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"787\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/39309642560_9ad9b1b8df_k-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/39309642560_9ad9b1b8df_k-200x300.jpg 200w, http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/39309642560_9ad9b1b8df_k-768x1151.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.kebablog.co.uk\/blogpics\/uploads\/39309642560_9ad9b1b8df_k.jpg 1366w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2862\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Corporation Street &#8211; Early morning desolation.
