Quite a decent upgrade, 10mp from 8.2, 10fps from 8.5. Burst mode 110 jpg 30 raw images. Digic III processing, 3inch screen and Live LCD view.

Retail price should be around the same as current 1D Mark IIn (RRP)price.

Canon have also upgraded the 580 Speedlite to the 580II and a new 16-35mm f/2.8 II.

PMA in vegas is the place to get your hands on the new goods.

Nothing else announced today. Seems the 1D(expensive one)/5D/30D upgrade will be along in September. Though I’d expect the 1D and 30D to be upgraded then. Personally cant see Canon upgrading 3 bodies in one go.

So, eventually decided to take the plunge and ordered the 15mm fisheye.

Shop price £450, Kerso ebay price £390, Kerso non Ebay price £370.

So guess where I got it from!

He seems a very reasonable bloke does Ian. Hopefully should get it soon, depends on the wonderful british banking system.

Maybe not indecision this time, more of a refinement of my previous wants.

EF15mm f/2.8 Fisheye – £441.96

Total £1557.45

Also need a monopod for the 300mm lens. Though might wait and see what people are flogging off at Focus. Not committing myself to a purchase until Focus 2007. If the prices are like the last year then maybe i can expect 5-10% off these. Saving £150 would be nice. Camerapricebuster.co.uk is my current secret weapon!

Still would like a 1D Mark IIn, but i’m waiting for the PMA show for that one. Too many rumours abound, so as its not needed it can wait.

I fully expect this list to change. Though i’m very happy with the performance of my EF70-200 f/4 with the 1.4 converter. I think the 300mm will behave in exactly the same way. Although IS will help it. And maybe improve on the 200.

Whilst on the usual Saturday shopping trip with Rachel I decided to take trip to Jessops to test the 300mm lens. Also the added bonus was she was asleep so it made the whole thing possible.

Right here goes:

Jessops supplied 5D (with very dirty viewfinder! – thought mine was shite) and 300mm f/4 IS USM lens.

Just when I though it was safe to think about new kit purchase, 2 things happen.

1) Someone says I might be disappointed with 1DS Mark II N.

2) 300mm f/4 Lens seems less good next to the 300 f/2.8 lens.

So as indecision strikes so do the ideas. Now I still very much would like the 1D, but also I’d like the lens.

Now that works out at £2100 for the 1D and £2873 for the lens. A nice total of £4973. Now pricing up B&H in New York the same items come to $7369.90 which using the ebay currency converter comes to £3778.12. Now this is before any duty is applied. So assuming duty for the lens is 6% (DLSR’s are 0%) and adding VAT @17.5% this comes out to £4203.91. A saving on the UK price of £769.09. Factoring shipping costs, it could be around £650 saving.

Apparently all L series lenses come with a one year international warranty. Not overly sure about the body though. Still I’m going to email Kerso on ebay to see what he can do (outside of ebay and Paypal). I know he sells the lens on Ebay for £2650 so assuming he’ll give a 4% discount for avoiding them it might be another £100 off. Still he might tell me to sod off!

/edit. That was fooking quick, he’ll do it for £2500! Bargain. It might go up with $, could go down. Still very decent price and he seems to be a very decent seller.

/edit 2: Forgot about the 8.375% New York State tax. That puts a shitter on the NY trip 🙁
